Broadband Television

Broadband Television: Anytime, Anyplace and Anywhere
Narrowstep evolves into international video-over-IP distributor

Broadband is gaining ground on all other existing media, be it the printed press or television . It is unprecedented in the history of broadcasting that an audience of potentially hundreds of million of viewers, can be reached simultaneously. For instamce, back in January 2004 the Web site of NASA’s Mars Exploration Rover Mission was visited 585 million times in a matter of only two days.

The benefits of Broadband to the content owner (provider) are evident:
- They can get much more information across to their potential target audience in much less time.

- The most efficient, and cost-effective way of communicating is by way of video. A picture indeed paints a thousand words.

- Additional services generate new income streams.

The global reach of internet makes content owners no longer dependent upon traditional broadcasting channels such as television and radio. Content owners can become commercially successful by taking control of broadcasting their content themselves. Internet via Broadband provides the opportunity to deliver their message anytime, anyplace and anywhere in the world.

The commercial attraction of the Broadband Internet has becoming visible and commercially tangible. Broadband is a medium in itself, which currently co-exists with television and within a matter of years will fully integrate with television . If the correct model is adhered to, then it is inevitable that we will see the huge commercial power of the Internet being unlocked. One will begin to realise that the Broadband Revolution is already well underway.

UK-based Narrowstep developed and introduced a business model which creates the opportunity for corporations, governmentsa and other organizations to generate substantial recurring revenue by making effective use of Broadband Internet. Narrowstep commercializes the streaming of content to targeted audiences – a concept termed narrowcasting.

Video is no longer the exclusive of the entertainment industry and an increasing number of corporations, organizations and governments have started implementing video as part of their respective business and communication strategies. Contrary to traditional broadcasting models, where video is blasted out to as many households as possible, with narrowcast programs are intended to reach a profiled and pre-determined group (or groups) of viewers, using Broadband Internet as the primary medium. The business model leverages surplus bandwidth to generate income for telecom (and cable) providers, content owners and media companies. The goal is to achieve an optimal reach, while controlling and minimizing both the variable and fixed transmission costs.
Narrowstep builds television channels on the internet
The company creates channels for its clients and makes this content available on mobile- and wireless devices, broadband and broadcast services.
